The short version, about both the game and what we are building. Anything missing here is usually covered on the game and server pages.
What is Rust Legacy?
It is the original version of Rust, released between 2013 and 2015. One island shared by everyone, simple linear crafting, C4 and the M4 at the top of the tree. The final build is v1069 from March 2015.
How is Legacy different from modern Rust?
They are effectively different games. Legacy has no components, scrap, electricity, tool cupboard upkeep or built-in teams. The map is fixed and familiar, and progress depends on gathering and time rather than knowledge of the current patch.
Where can I download Rust Legacy?
The version left Steam in December 2016, so people play on clients preserved by the community. We are building our own launcher that installs the correct version and connects you to the server. The download link will appear here at launch, in the first half of 2027.
How do I connect to a server?
In the classic client you use the console: press F1 and type net.connect address:port. Our launcher will connect with a single button instead.
Will it run on a weak PC?
Yes. The 2015 build is undemanding: about two gigabytes of disk space and any reasonably modern Windows machine. It usually runs on hardware that cannot start modern Rust.
What are the rates and the wipe schedule?
Rates are x1, as in the original game. Map, structures and loot reset every 14 days on Friday at 18:00 (UTC+3). Learned blueprints and clans survive the wipe.
Can I buy an advantage?
No. Weapons, explosives, blueprints and clan slots are not for sale. Paid perks are limited to status, cosmetics and comfort features that do not affect fights or raids.
What is the server called?
RedBear. The site rust-legacy.com is a hub about the game itself, while RedBear is our server, launcher and community. In the server list and the launcher it appears as “RedBear · Rust Legacy x1”; any future servers with different rates will run under the same name.
Is this an official Facepunch server?
No. Official support for Legacy ended in 2016. This is a fan project and it is not affiliated with the game's developers.
When does it open?
In the first half of 2027. The roadmap page shows the current state of the work: what is done, what is in progress and what is ahead.
